Shining A Little Light

Let me take you back about a year ago. I awoke early one morning to a rattling and clanking sound. Certain that I had a mouse in a trap somewhere (living on the farm I deal with quite a few mice) I checked the usual traps, but couldn't find anything. Then, following the sound I found the little culprit stuck in my recessed light in my bathroom. I was six or seven months prego with baby number two and didn't wish to climb up on a chair to try and solve the problem by myself. My husband was away at work and after a frantic phone call to my brother-in-law, help had arrived. Problem is, when he pulled the glass out, that little mouse moused dropped straight down and the person who was suppose to be holding a bag to catch it (me), ran off screaming. The mouse got away and the glass slipped out of my brother-in-laws hero's hands and shattered on the floor. So long story short, I have been staring at this, every time I use my bathroom. Pretty bad, isn't it? So I had a strok

House Options... Reality Check

I met with a contractor two days ago to discuss building a new house! Yay! I was so excited, I tried on several different outfits, because I was meeting with him sans the hubby and I wanted to look like I was a woman he would take seriously. So once he arrived and I ushered him into my office, we started talking ideas and $. I had a number in my head that I figured was pretty reasonable and could get me a decent house. Yeah right. To the contractors credit he was upfront and honest, but the number he gave me made me suck air. I'm talking upwards of $300k. Do you have 300k just laying around? I don't. Well it didn't deter me completely. We still went on with discussing a floor plan, material options etc. He is going to draft a plan and get back to me later. The good news is with the price of building new, the hubby is finally taking my idea of renovating an old farmhouse we already own a little more into consideration. So the whole thing got me to thinking, how come I could

Let's get things started!

First things first I suppose, hello all. This is my very first blog and to say I'm a newbie would be an understatement. So here's a little bit about me. I love to write, read, cook, and DIY. I live in small town, middle of nowhere. More about that later. I am married with two beautiful babies and live on a ranch/farm. I have a million projects around the house that need to be done. Our house is a 1970's trailer house, although my husband insists that it is a 'modular' home. It is not the house we will be in forever, but for now it is home, so I make do with what I have on a very tight budget. I am not an experienced DIYer, it took me a day and a half to get a basic shelf hung in my bathroom, but I enjoy it. I also find myself talking to my imaginary audience as I prepare meals after watching cooking shows. Come on, you've done it to. I am passionate about cooking, although given the girls being nearly three years old and six months, I find it increasing
