Photos, Photos and More Photos

I have been feeling guilty about not getting this post written sooner, but as usual, life has gotten in the way and I have been super busy. Last night and today it has been raining, so I have finally had a chance to catch my breath.

In fact, I was over at Lucky this morning knocking out kitchen tile (more on that later) and I was making up a post in my head when I came to the conclusion that so much has happened that the best way to get caught up would be to upload all my pictures and pick the ones that best describe what I've been up to.

So without further adieu, I give you, my camera roll!

One last look at Lucky before she moved!

The first beam going under.

This is where my heart stopped. That is one tilted house!

Here it is from farther back!

Hooking up to the moving truck.

These are the blocks that held it up. Unsettling how much they resemble Jenga blocks!

Found this old stove in the basement!

If you look closely you can see the wheels underneath the house.

Electric company taking care of lines.

This is not something you see out your car window everyday!

Coming down the homestretch.

Apparently one of the cement truck drivers that poured the basement has a sense of humor.

The kitchen.

Living room, plus one photo bombing baby.

Dining room.

Fabulous closet door, at least in my opinion!

Floor grate.

Ugly old carpet in closet.

Hardwood floor beneath.

Bedroom floors after I removed laminate flooring, apparently there had been carpet glued down somewhere along the way. This is a "how not to put carpet on hardwood floor" photo.

This is a "how to if you absolutely feel you must cover hardwood floor" photo. The carpet pulled up easy and I will get the carpet tacks out soon!

I had no idea how to remove the clay tile in the kitchen, so I just went for it and here's what worked for me. I tapped a flat head screw driver under the tile till it loosened and then just popped them out. It worked about 80% of the time.

When it didn't work, the tile broke.

When it did work, the tile looked like this. I saved all the whole pieces to use somewhere else.

See, lots of whole pieces.

All finished! One project done, five hundred fifty three thousand to go!

Stairs before.

And stairs in progress. I was really excited to find that the stairs are hardwood. You can see the carpet pulled back to expose the hardwood in the living room here too.

Whew, are you all photo'd out? I will try to keep up a little better so that I don't bombard you with so many pictures all at once next time, and so I can go into a little more depth on the process of each project.

I have no idea what I am doing 98% of the time. I am just winging it and figuring out what works and what doesn't. I have watched way to many home improvement shows and I've been using the internet quite a bit to do research, which has helped, but I figure the best way to learn is to just get my hands dirty!

If you have any tips or questions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks for stopping by today and checking on the progress!

Have a wonderful Monday!

    1. Thanks Melita! It helps that we aren't living in it, so I can make large messes and walk away at the end of the day!

Changes

I was cleaning today, which gave me time to think, and thinking always leads me here. The house is 'weekend messy', so decided to clean my floors, because The Nester says if your floors are clean the rest of the house feels clean too, even if it isn’t.  I have found that it is pretty good advice, so when everything else feels chaotic, I clean the floors. Of course for me, cleaning the floors also means picking up the toys, shoes, clothes, etc. so that I can even begin to vacuum, which naturally leads to a cleaner home as well.  While cleaning up I began to think about how this blog has evolved over the years, from a desire to write like The Nester about home, into what it is now.  I started writing this blog when I was dreaming of building a new home. Then plans changed, life took turns, and we ended up in a home so different than I expected and so perfect for our family. Somewhere along the way I realized that home wasn’t in the walls that went up or in ...

Ordinary Magic

I am still here. Despite all the challenges of the past year, you are reading this and I am writing it, so we we made it. I won't even try to wrap up what we have all been through, I am just going to acknowledge we all lived and processed through the past year by whatever means necessary.  As I look back on it, it's crazy to think how much fear and heartache the last year held but also how much joy and ordinary life as well.  It's been quiet here on the blog as some of you have noticed and checked in on me. The quiet gave way to the most exciting thing though, I am now a published author, along with some incredible friends! The devotional, Lighthouse Collections— Beacons of Light in Life's Storms, is a work of passion and prayers. My dear friend Megan Miller contacted me last year about contributing to a devotional and I was thrilled to be included. Between going back to school for my Masters degree and writing for the devotional, I had not found the time or the words t...

And the Stocking were hung by the Fireplace

Booyah! Homemade stockings hung by the fireplace? Check! I am so thrilled to have completed these! You have no idea! Let me preface this by stating I am not a 'sewer', hmmm I think that is sewer like where your toilet water goes, and I mean sewer as in 'one who sews'. Ok, you get the idea. I did sew for 4-H growing up, but otherwise I really just bust it out only when circumstances call for it, such as these stockings. So now that we have covered the fact that I am admittedly not going to call myself a seamstress, that's a better word, here's how I made these babies! I have a general sense of what sewing is. I do not do the whole, buy a pattern and pin it together and mark where to tuck and etc etc. No, I'm to impatient for all of that. I am more of a trial and error kind of gal. And I have to say there was very little error on these stockings. In fact my first one turned out the best. Probably because I took my time and was careful. Also plaid is my new f...
